Awesome kid update.
I go out of town for 5 days, and dang.
He is now RUNNING around the house. Screw walking, apparently. You take your eyes off him for a second, and he’s gone. Never crawls anymore, only walks and runs.
His sign language vocabulary is now:
Milk
Water
Eat
Drink
Dog
Car
Bye
Theres a study that said hearing kids exposed to sign language will pick it up faster then the spoken vocabulary, and will use it more then spoken words for several months, plus it gives them a greater aptitude for languages in the future.
He occasionally speaks about 5-6 words, although he knows about 10, and understands the concept of at least 20.
He still likes the color red, and can point it out consistently. The others he occasionally gets confused.
He’s drinking water out of a sippy cup, but his new trick is to drink some, not swallow, hold it in his mouth for a while, and then open his mouth and let it all drool out… especially if someone’s holding him.
He’s totally doing it on purpose to get a reaction, because he thinks it hilarious.
He can identify about 6 body parts consistently.
Nose, Ears, Hair, Head, Mouth and Eyes.
He can point them out both on himself and other people (and stuffed animals)
He barks at dogs, he growls at lions, tigers and orange cats, he says ooooo to monkeys, rawr to dragons and dinosaurs, and mmmmmmmmmmm to cows.
Stuffed animals, pictures, and the real thing.
At his one year checkup (which was actually right at 13 months), they said physically he’s slightly ahead of his age group, but mentally he’s about as advanced as a 16 or 17 month old.
So yeah. Thats our kid.
